Thanks for the great advice. I would also add that one should be careful of what you are reading/listening to when trying to find the right voice. The subconscious influence of writer's voices can throw you off, or can help you find a rhythm and voice that works for you. This past year, I've been listening to the Vorkosigan audio books to help me find my voice for narrative writing. It has been a great help!
