So, along the same lines, I was just wondering about how to pronounce Vorpatril. Is the accent on the Vor or on the pat?
Thanks. I admit I had been saying it (in my head) wrong for a long time, but the most recent re-read of Captain Vorpatril's Alliance caused me to try the other version - I'm not even sure what triggered the change.
I've always thought that "Vor" should be unemphasized, like the French "Des" or German "Von". Does the emphasis always go on the next syllable, though (vor PAT ril, vor KOH suh g'n)? Or do some Vor names have the emphasis later? I've always been at a loss for how to pronounce "Vorparadijs".
I believe you'd be right on the former and I'll take a stab at the latter: vor Para dees) would be my guess as it's likely a derivative of the Greek name Paradijs pronounced similarly.
