Neil Hepworth Since my wife brought up this question, yes, I will join in the fight. She seems to think that you are mostly dutch inspired (and as you confirmed), but I seem to recall reading on your webstie that your first trilogy was more Russian inspired. Yes?

Jonathan McIntosh Ravka, the dominant setting of the first trilogy, is reminiscent of pre-revolutionary Tsarist Russia.

OMG that's why there are so many Dutch names and words! (I'm Flemish so my native language is Dutch but I only read books in English and I was so confused!)

Delynia It's truly amazing to see and read a book that has been inspired by the country I live in. Though it doesn't really surprise me, I (for some reason I cannot explain) doubted the fact that Rietveld was a Dutch last name... As a matter of fact I am Dutch but damn. I also laughed at the resemblance between de pleasure houses in Ketterdam and Amsterdam because there are quite a few if you know where to look. But overall I love it!!
