This exchange knocked me over when I watched the '87 television adaptation! And then again when I read the books, Ugh, so good.

It is my very favorite part of my very favorite book. :-)
So true… although my favourite scene with those two in „Gaudy Night“ is the one on the river when Harriet finally realizes that she’s in love with him. But this is a close second.
LOVED that. After so many books with him asking and Harriet refusing... it wasn't even a slow burn! What a wonderful relief Gaudy Night was! --I actually went to Oxford for a degree partially because I was such a huge fan of that series. Never went to a Gaudy, though...
