There was an senior lifemate. She killed him because he choose to be vampire instead of her. I always wondered if she could have brought him back from even that. I forgot which book...maybe the one with Destiny?
I do remember reading about a woman who may have lost her lifemate before she even found him, and ...never found another, but I don't remember in which book.
Once the soul is gone, there is no coming back from being a vampire - which is explained throughout the series.
