M.J. Payne Very thorough and neatly wrapped up answer to my question. The voices of the Malburn Brothers were, in my mind a tour de force in the realm of "voice" in literature. Keeping it all straight for the 600 pages and having it clear with both voices recognizable while in their historic "cloak" while using expressions from that period that are artistic yet real - and so smooth. The book is like a vortex that sucks the reader inside seamlessly. It is a very impressive work to say the least.
As for Mac and Dinger, the differences in voice and circumstance make for different moods perhaps it could be said. Mac's ability to change from gentleman to beast lends suspense and Dinger's freshly out of the war and harder in general approach leads him to do different things than Mac. I think voice in your work is always unique and you have a special artistry with it.
