Lois Bujold Yes, and not the only ones. Consider quaddies, the heavy-worlders mentioned but not yet seen on stage, and Guppy, foreshadowing future amphibious possibilities for some water world. And other developments not yet thought of in Miles's time.

Anne Archibald I love the universe and approve of the constraint, but as a counterexample, C. J. Cherry's future history focuses strongly on how people and societies in different contexts can be as different as aliens - and then also introduces aliens, occasionally using them as lenses to see the humans.
