I hadn't even connected the dots on his dying because he didn't have the stone! Thanks for pointing it out!
well, i think your speculation was right. the book only mentioned Marie-Laure giving Werner an iron key and nothing more. The fact that Werner got the model house suggests that Marie indeed threw the model and sof in the grotto, and Werner went back for it but left the sof behind.
I agree with Nikkah. In fact, when it was mentioned that Werner had the house, I was really puzzled whether I had missed her giving it to him.
