I like your description of Dashiel Hammett's Nick and Nora Charles. Sounds a lot like Ben and Lena Bradford in 2198: A Memoir from the Second Revolution.
That's the first couple that comes to mind. Wouldn't it be a shame if Hammett published his original draft that didn't include Nick and Nora?
