John Leonard Strain can come when you don't outgrow or give up lesser things in order to make space for the greater things you're stretching yourself to attain. Also like Tahir says when trying to overdo it, haste. Being focused too much on the result rather than on the intrinsic value of the experience of stretching.
I think it's a good sign when we mostly enjoy stretching. It takes equanimity to stretch. Like Shah says in another place, people who can make decisions rather than worrying on and on over them, can grow and also command respect.
