David Wooddell When I took creative writing classes, studying under the estimable teaching of Frank Case at Eastern Michigan, he always commented that my poetry resembled song lyrics more than poetry. At the time, I thought that was something wrong with my poetry, but in later years, I realized I was in the wrong class. I should have been taking song writing instead of poetry. But Frank Case was a wonderful teacher. He actually read my writing.

Lois Bujold I'm always suspicious of those sorts of distinctions, being of the belief that they are more about maintaining status boundaries that they are about art. Or heart. Though I suppose there can be legitimate, analytical reasons to make them as well. To talk about a thing in order to fix it, it helps to have vocabulary words. It depends, I suppose, on the purpose for which the jargon is deployed.
