Laer Carroll I have a smartphone (Samsung Note 4, better than the 5) which is just right for reading. Easy to handle, able to show larger font.

Derek I personally read a ton of books on my smart phone as well. The person who asked the question prefers paper, I prefer electronic (it doesn't dry out my thumbs - what a weird problem to have, I know). Anything with a 5 inch screen plus the FBReader app works great for me. Just adjust the font to taste, crop some margins if you want to maximize screen space, and away you go. OverDrive is also great to borrow library books but tends to eat battery life for some reason.

Ariel Segall There are a lot of really wonderful things about e-readers, especially for travel and accessibility, and I do like both my kindle and my phone app. (I even made my Kindle its own custom Vorkosigan cover, which probably tells you something about its contents.) There's just something about paper that irrationally goes straight to my heart, what can I say. I think it's connected to my mild obsession with historical preservation; I'll admit in my more surreal moments I've considered asking whether one could have your complete writings laser- engraved in microprint on granite for truly long-term storage. Comes from growing up in museums full of ancient artifacts, I think.

Leah I have a really hard time reading things digitally. I get a headache from staring at screens - movies, computers, tv, smart phones - and reading is my haven. I'm loving the Penric novellas, but if they're not on paper I'll forget they exist because they're not a physical object on my shelf. I would be delighted to have them in a paper collection.

Susan Murdoch I love my e-reader. I have both a kindle, the cloud reader and my iphone which all sync so I can pick up any of them and find my place right away. Additionally, another favorite thing is knitting so I can do that and read at the same time... I love all your books. I'm working through the Sharing Knife series now. Thanks for your wonderful worlds.

Susan I bought a little carrybag (like a very slim purse, with a long handle) for my Nook e-reader, because I fully expected to drop it someday. It is great for carting it around to restaurants and the like when I have to eat alone or sit in a waiting room. Also provides some extra protection besides the cover I have on the nook (I am very clumsy!) And SO much easier than carrying it my hand (it doesn't fit into my regular purse.)

Susan Although I really prefer books in print on my shelves (all the Vorkosigans are there in hardback) I do have Penric and Flowers of Vashnoi on my Nook, since that's the only way they were available. I tend to re-read paper books oftener than my electronic ones, too.

Susan Re the fear of dropping/losing/etc an e-reader: I had the same fear when I was given my Nook years ago. The first thing I bought was a cover to help protect the glass; the second thing was a purse-type bag with a long handle that just fits the Nook and even has an external pocket for stashing whatever (as long as it's small and/or flat.) Whenever I take my Nook anywhere (e.g., to dine when I'm alone), it always goes in its own carrybag. Easy to haul, and harder to forget.
