Naturally, I agree with Helen. I have been on a similar quest this year: to find today's good writing. I've been working my way through the published fiction on the New Yorker magazine website, which I have found surprisingly readable and less erudite than I had feared, and then, whichever of the New York Times Bestsellers' lists are in my local library. Not because popular books are necessarily well-written, but because they show you what today's audiences want to read. It's not a perfect system, but for me has opened my eyes on a variety of topics.
I love an organized quest, Juliet. Sounds like a great plan.
