This is why Kite Runner was so real and wonderful- it was you and an your intrinsic connection. I could feel the air almost. Please forgive- but it's what was missing in Splendid Suns. Writing women perhaps is not as easy for even a very observant and empathetic man? Your writing is vivid and important and real- I will read your next, but wonder if others felt as I did about the stark contrast between the intimacy of your male and female characters? OR- is the superficial nature of their characterizations of women written that way to convey the limitations of being a woman in such a society? I've wondered... Thank you for Kite Runnner.. Amazing.
On the contrary, Melissa. I was drawn into the emotions of every woman in A Thousand Splendid Suns. From the uncertainty to the fear, to the end of life. I have read all three of Mr. Hosseini's novels and have experienced many emotions. While you're are quite right that the novels are vivid and real, I did not see a stark contrast between the intimacy of male and female characters. Being drawn into the lives of the characters was/is incredible, and Mr. Hosseini has an uncanny means of connecting with the reader by drawing them into the location and losing them there.
Thank you for ALL three books. I can't wait for more!
I agree with Sue.I became very passionate about the growing connection between the women. They were very real to me and,in my own way,I could relate to them.It was so intense that I finished the book on a three- day vacation.Wonderful,real.Thank you and I await the fourth.
Wow, I actually thought at certain points that The Kite Runner was a memoir and actually asked a question about the authenticity of any part of the story. My question was answered here. The story is just so poignant and I loved the cultural tidbits spread throughout the story. Very good book nonetheless.
