Allynn Riggs What kind of music and reading material are your sources for inspiration?

David Staniforth Music depends on what I'm writing. When I first started writing Alloria I'd just bought the best of Cat Steven's album and it kind of set the tone for the novel. I'd then often listen to it before writing to get me in the right frame of mind. As for reading, any book that I'm enjoying will do, and I'm generally inspired to write if I come across a particularly well turned phrase. It's that love of putting words in the best order that i so much enjoy about writing, with that inspiration reminder, the block seems to disappear.

Allynn Riggs Had not thought of Cat Stevens, but that would work for some things though I most often need no words so I head to classical types and soundtracks - Mozart to John Williams and folk dance rhythms, too. Putting words together in particular ways, even unconventional sentence structures often will get creativity going. Listening to people talk to each other is another way to get through a slow part, especially if I'm troubled by a section of dialog. Though that can also launch a whole new story, too.

David Staniforth Yeah, it's not so much the words for me either, more the mood that the music invokes, Kind of like a sound track for a movie.
