I believe a tv series would fit the gone series more, book to tv is now the done thing and that way we can have so much more detail than a movie could do.

Due to the similarities (though small) of Gone to Stephen King's Under The Dome, which was already a TV show, it is unlikely they would make the Gone series into a TV show as well, but hopefully it will be made into movies, if they do it right.
