Midwives was my 1st Chris Bohjalian book and then I fell in love with the audiobook, read by Kate Burton. Her interpretation was so well done. Are you involved in choosing who does the audio versions of your books? I also enjoyed your daughter's reading of the Guest Room.
I was not involved back in 1998. Too young and inexperienced. I am now. So glad you liked Grace's reading. I am thrilled! #ProudDad
So odd that I log in to goodreads tonight and see this as the first topic. I loved the Midwives and today I had a patient (also an RN, in Oncology) whose mother was a Midwife. I talked to him for so long today about his experiences of growing up immersed in that. I thought of your book so many times today!
Your response to this question explains so much of what I appreciate about your writing. On the surface a novel is about a distinct group or situation, yet the themes touch all of us, even decades now after some of the books were written. And as time goes on, when we'd maybe expect more changes to have occurred in society than we find, the fundamental questions in your books are so important to revisit. And that is what great writing is meant to do...
