Hi i think that book was Dark Destiny, where the heroine protected her town, the lifemate you were talking was the old woman she used to visit
Yes that was it. Destiny's life mate had to help distance the woman from the pain of knowing there was no hope for the vampire. I do believe. It was very sad.
I remember that story. Made me feel sorry for both of them.
