Excellent....
work on eliminating passive sentences like " I was immediately struck" (S. King says the road to hell is paved with adverbs) Try sentences like, "The gore driping from the walls and ceiling caused a a gorge to rise in my throat. I gasped for breath as my chest contricted from the horror.
