Carro Thanks. Yes, I've got cousins of that relatively distant kind. At a family gathering years back, it was startling to meet folks with resemblance - both in looks and mannerisms.

Sue It's early yet and I haven't finished my coffee yet, but I'm stumped - wracking my brain but can't figure out how Padma is related to the Vorrutyers. We don't know much about the Vorpatrils and his mother was half Vorbarra and half Betan. Unless it's through the Vorpatril side, that leaves Xav's unnamed mother. Am I missing something?

Martha Sue, I believe Miles is also related to the Vorrutyers, so that would be the branch to investigate.

Sue I know Miles is, through Piotr's mother: his (Piotr's) grandfather was Pierre "Le Sanguinaire" Vorrutyer.

Kalen Delaney Lois, in "Barrayar", right when Cordelia meets Alys, we are told that she has two sisters.

Tara Bozarth I think the relationship between Ivan and By, and the Vorrutyers in general, is detailed in CVA. I believe the same level of relationship would exist for Miles. In addition, Aral's first wife was a Vorrutyer, I think.

Scott Let's not forget poor Gregor's favorite fear: all the High Vor are basically a big pool of cousins "at this point". I always find it amusing when the whole distant relations concept comes up amongst the upper crust (like Vormoncrief's feint with Ekaterin) since they're all pretty much related if they go back 4 or 5 generations in the web. Part of the "Character of Barrayar" that I've grown to love so much.

Steve Berliner Do we know what family Alys is from/maiden name? I don't recall ever seeing that mentioned.
