Federica Leva Hi, Sarah! I agree with you on the motivations that push a writer to write - wanting to entertain the public, certainly, but above all to draw satisfaction from what is created. I also agree with the strategies that you suggest to avoid being crushed by a harsh environment, more willing to lavish frustration than satisfaction. But if you write with passion, you have to continue even when every street seems closed. It is not easy, far from it, but often it is the stories that we invent, and that insist on being told, that save us from ourselves.
Good luck also to the aspiring writer, I hope to find her book soon on the web! (sorry for the poor English, it's not my mother tongue :))
