Thanks for the reply, Zee. I think we share the same thinking. My debut novel deals with family themes, the next is heading more into sci-fi & caper territory. Always at the heart of my writing are strong female voices, with intelligence, humour & capability.

There will always be a sort of thread, even minute, that will go through all your stories never mind the genre. That 'thread' is you, as the writer.
Just write as your gut is telling you is fit for the tale - the rest will fall into place naturally :)
