Have you read " The Vital Question: Energy, Evolution, and the Origins of Complex Life" by Nick Lane?
It's already on my to-read list, but I haven't got to it yet.
Thanks for your answer, will definitely take a peak. What about Dark Matter and the Dinosaurs? Despite its sorry title, the possibility that the arrival of life (and extinction) is part of a 30 million-year cycle and that this pattern, defining for our planet, is determined by dark matter, leaves me aghast. Confirms directed panspermia but throws Gaia and the big lottery out the window!
I have not read it, but some reputable sources I've seen have expressed doubts about its reliability...
