I have to tell you that I talk to a LOT of people who saw the show, then read the books, and with ONE EXCEPTION, ALL of them found the books far, far better. I read the books as they came out, and had to just pretend that the show had nothing to do with them. It was fine, just not "my" Sookie stories.
No adaptation can ever meet the quality of a book. They are great companions to each other, much like the Game of Thrones show is to A Song of Ice and Fire series.
