Renita Boniak Caitlynne, Great Question. This link has the reading order for the series. Please note that there are short stories in both series that you may want to read in addition to the books. If you enjoy the books, then please join our discussion group on Facebook. The Soulwood books take place in the same world as Jane Yellowrock and the stories do overlap a bit. http://www.faithhunter.net/wp/reading...

Judi I'm with Faith. While they do crossover with characters and some timeline, Soulwood is a series all its own which can be read anytime. A little Jane Yellowrock background would help. I'm assuming if you're asking this question that you haven't already read Jane and it would take quite awhile to catch up. They are both some of the best books I've ever read in the UF genre so I'd suggest and recommend reading the Jane Yellowrock books regardless of what order you decide on. You may also want to join the group on Facebook called Jane Yellowrock and Faith Hunter's Worlds Discussion. You're more likely to get tons of opinions on questions like this! :-)

Dave Reed Caitlynne, I personally love Nell and Soulwood more than I adore Jane, which is a lot. (Sorry, Jane.) I've listened to every audio book so far, which is the best way to go, IMO, and read the few shorts that didn't get a recording.

Nell's books do stand alone. However, there are a lot of Easter Eggs in Soulwood that you'll miss if you haven't read most of Jane first. Plus, some of Nell's thoughts/feelings/interactions with/about Jane, Rick, and the events in Nola may be unclear without the background.

While set in the same universe, Nell's and Jane's books read and feel very different to me, which is high praise for Faith's talent in finding unique and enjoyable voices for both heroines.

Alisha Henri I'm glad I read Jane's books before Bell came into being, but Nell does stand alone. Both are excellent adventures.

Mary Hargrove I've read both series several times. Soulwood does stand alone, but I'd definitely recommend starting with Jane Yellowrock and reading Nell's Soulwood books after. Or find the timeline and read them all in chronological order.

Crystal Wilson Jane introduces Nell in a short story n Nell references Jane in Blood of th Earth. So definitely reading Jane first is a must.

message 7: by Lee (new)

Lee There are only three books in the Soulwood series, and 12 in the Jane Yellorock series. The Jane books start with Skinwalker, and each of the following books continue to tell the story. The Soulwood books are a bit more episodic, and are structured like a police procedural, with Nell the pov character going through the stages of recruit, rookie, and new officer. I'd suggest you pick up Skinwalker, and Blood of the Earth, the first books of each series, read the both then go with the series that catches your imagination. Then of course read the other series, and the collection of short stories. Good reading!

Tammie Hill I would recommmend reading Jane first, that will give you the back story for Rick and Jane. You also need to read the shorts.

message 9: by Abby (new)

Abby I think it’s up to you. Would you normally read all novellas as you read a series or go back later and read them when you miss the characters? Looking back, I wish I would have read Nell as I was reading Jane. I feel like I forgot some pretty important stuff with a certain male character that I would have remembered had I read in order. Either way, you’ll love both series!!

message 10: by Caitlynne (new)

Caitlynne I’m almost done with mercy blade Yellowrock #3..and I wanted to start soulwood but didn’t know if I needed to wait lol thanks everyone

message 11: by Anne (new)

Anne I would read Jane first - they are separate, but connected to Nell- and besides, they are fabulous.

message 12: by Bing (new)

Bing Huntington Definitely read Jane first to get the back story, then the short stories before starting with Soulwood!

message 13: by Danielle (new)

Danielle I recommend reading Jane Yellowrock series first until the introduction of Soulwood characters then start Soulwood and continue to read Jane Yellowrock. JY has backstory you need to fully understand characters and there is crossover between the books.

message 14: by Paula (new)

Paula Plummer I read Jane first and then Soulwood and it felt right, I love all Jane's books !

message 15: by Mary (new)

Mary Yep - I think reading Jane is most definitely the best. It allows the reader in Soulwood to know Rick's history and makes him a more complex and sympathetic character.

message 16: by Debbie (new)

Debbie I read Jane first, then Soulwood. But Soulwood does stand alone. There is so much more depth to it however if you have read Jane first.

message 17: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Davis I think that both series can stand alone but it's much more enriching when you read them together. I read all of the Jane-world books (including Soulwood) in recommended order on my first read. Then I re-read only Soulwood. Now I am reading them in order again. I can't decide if I love Jane or Nell more, so I choose not to decide. I love them both. And there's something really soothing to read and re-read books about characters you love.

message 18: by Claudia (new)

Claudia I discovered Soulwood first, then went back and read the Jane Yellowrock series. You can definitely read them in that order without losing anything - it just gives you more information about Rick and Jane.

Steve Nothing to add to those who've already answered. Just will emphasize how good the series' are.
