That's amazing -- I hadn't realized it was so long ago you started the series. I've now read the entire series twice and listened to whatever is available once. I LOVE this universe and I love all the characters. You are one of my husband's and my favorite authors. :)
Yep! I was born in early 1983 and the books have certainly maintained their value :)
There's no question that the series has held up. I introduced a good friend to the Vorkosiverse about a year ago and he liked it a lot. Given that the book immediately preceding it was Faulkner and that, like me, he's read a lot of the "classics", I think it's safe to say that you're in good literary standing even if much of the literary community balks at giving your whole genre credit. Stand Tall, Madam. Stand Tall.
I was born in 1981, so I squeak in just ahead! I didn't discover the series until 2008, but your books (and Grover Gardner's voice) helped me through a nasty breakup and they're still what I turn to when I'm under a lot of stress. I also gave my son the middle name "Miles" and it's entirely too apropos. So thank you for writing them!
I have all the books in hardback - starting collecting when the first one came out in the SF Book Club. I have reread the entire series many times, and a couple of my favorites even oftener. I also found the Penric books as ebooks and enjoyed them very much, too!
