I have asked a similar question about the book. Then I found your answer. I love this answer and I think it makes sense in terms of character and theme. It's hard to imagine that Werner would be so clear headed at this moment given the situation and his condition, but he has always had almost superhuman sensitivity (to radio waves, to people). One thing though. The key is iron, not silver. Also not sure how the little house could float with the stone inside. Is Werner lying when he tells Marie-Laure that it's in the water?
