Not knowing the exact biology being discussed, pretty much anything is theoretically possible, so long as it doesn't break the laws of physics. There is a staggering amount of weird biology on earth. Things like instantaneous healing would be out because it breaks the laws of physics (hard limits on how fast things can diffuse and chemical bonds can form). (PhD in Biochemistry)
Thanks for your lengthy reply, and recos. I'm fairly well up to date (for a non-biologist!) on the primatology aspects, and the human speculations -- most of which aren't much improved over Morris, in my NSH opinion. I suppose the bug guy's guesses are as good as any. If for no other reason than that they infuriate SJ Gould's leftie successors.... EO Wilson.
