I've read all but three of those (which just found their way on my want-to-read list) and can only wholeheartedly agree with your recommendations (and I don't like that GrimDark stuff (either)).
Other non-grimdark favorites of mine include Raymond E. Feist's Magician: Apprentice and Magician: Master. His later stuff gets darker, but these early two books are phenomenal "high fantasy."
I am so happy to see Eli on the list! That series is one of my absolute favorites, along with the Queen's Thief books by Megan Whalen Turner and, of course, everything Riyria. Apparently I like thief stories. ;-)
I read The Golem and the Jinni based on Michael's recommendation. It is wonderful!
Thank you Michael. You seem like a great person, very good with your fans. I've read a few of the titles on your list and they're definitely what I'm looking for. No problem with older titles, they seem to be more up my alley than much of modern fantasy. I often look for the classics or those compared to the classics when picking new books to read. There are a few titles here to add to my TBR list.
