I, for one, am very glad that you write about China. I love how much I learn about the Chinese culture while I am being completely entertained by the story and the characters. Thank you for all your books. I only wish you wrote them as quickly as I read them! lol
You're welcome, and thank you for your kind words about my books! I'm sorry I'm not able to write them any faster! :)
Ditto to Renee's comment. I really appreciate the research you do and how you are able to present the positive and negative together in an honest representation of the people/culture.
I am glad you write about China, as I feel like I have an insider's point of view on life there. We have plenty of novels based on the US so please, keep up the great work in sharing Chinese history, culture and news!
I love learning about the customs and beautiful culture that many Chinese have seemed to keep a mystery. Please keep writing more
Love what you say about finding the universals through the uniqueness, Lisa. (I have a novel that will be published at the end of 2015 or early 2016 that features a controversial eighteenth century rabbi/mystic/spiritual teacher. In that book as well, universals are revealed through the particulars of the Jewish experience and what is timeless emerges as readers are immersed in a different time.
I'm very much looking forward to your new book! Very excited to discover the story of The Tea Girl on Hummingbird Lane. Your novels, such as Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, Shanghai Girls, Dreams of Joy, Peony in Love, and China Dolls have sparked my curiosity and interest in Chinese history, culture, and customs. Your novels are fascinating, touching, heart-warming, and absolutely wonderful. I am a very big fan of yours and I wish you all the very best. Can't wait to read your new book! Bravo Lisa See!
I am kind of the same way the main characters always end up being Sicilian, and i'm part Sicilian, i find other country's fascinating. you'r book 'the snow flower and the secret fan' was inspiring, it showed me a totally new level of description, thank you.
Through your books I have developed a fascination with China's culture. I grew up in a family with no culture and very few traditions...I think that's why I'm drawn to other cultures, especially Asian cultures. Thank you for continually refining my understanding and appreciation for a part of the world previously unknown to me.
Personally I hope you never stop writing about China. Your work has given me a perspective on it I never could have gained just watching documentaries.
I was wondering the same thing, if Lisa See would bring her extraordinary talents to addressing other cultures. Nonetheless, she has a gift when it comes to the Chinese and she never disappoints. I'm now totally immersed (no pun intended) in "The Island of Sea Women". I need to find out more about this culture because I have so many questions about these fascinating women. Thank You Lisa See - you are a teacher as well as an author.
Thank you for writing about China. It is always fascinating to learn more about another culture and the people who live there. You are expanding our knowledge and helping us to understand a country whose history has always been shrouded in mystery from the outside world.
I hope you keep writing your novels in the context of China. You have a unique perspective that unfolds with each beautifully written story. I appreciate the opportunity to learn more about Chinese culture through your writing. Keep them coming!
I am a lover of so many Chinese Authors. I relate their rise this century as akin to the rise of the American Authors of the last century. A coming of age along with freedoms and changes in both societies. Being from the UK I notice it more maybe. I'm an avid Dicken's fan also and relate to some of the hardships. I worked in China recently for 2 years and have many friends there. I love Asia in general and have used Chinese & Asian characters in my own novels based on real people visually but creating a different persona. I loved Shanghai Girls and will definitely be reading more of your books. Brian
Lisa, this is why you are a writer w/ a heart for China! May I continue to be more like you in that respect. God bless.
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan was my first See novel. I fell in love with your writing & looking up what you have written. I am grateful that all of your book have a Asian theme. I am mixed Chinese/Vietnamese-American and I was happy to have read Half and Half. I can relate to the stories in that book and felt are part of something more commend then I once thought. Thank you.
Thank you Lisa. As a Chinese, I have learned a lot from your book. To know the history from different angle., and I have the empathy for your characters.
Just watched your talk at the Chinese American Museum. It was a thrill to hear about your family background, and how you talked about Chinese Women and see how much hard work you go through with research to gain your inspiration to write. Please keep up the good work. I would be interested in hearing stories about the changes of everyday life for modern day China. Take Care! I look forward to reading your next book! : )
um she didn't answer the question at all? the question was if she would ever write anything non-"Asian". I mean it is a little weird that this white lady ONLY writes about "Asians". and yes, I know that her great-grandfather was Chinese, but she's still white.
