But it is something he should dedicate the time to do. For the average Joe it might seem like needless preparation but for someone with Erick's lifespan and propensity for finding trouble it is simply putting in the work he WILL need to do to get the skills he will NEED to solve his problems. Take his vow to use his time travel to find a better way than nukes. That means he will need to find a cure for Bliss addicts and that likely means learning the ins and outs of the human brain. A daunting task that is scary as hell and certainly not a skill he needs every day, but it is a skill he will need to solve that problem and it is within his limits to do so IF he is willing to put in the work. So when are we going to see Erick stop slacking off in these books and actually work on learning the new skills he keeps putting off for the more familiar things. As crazy as it sounds I actually think Erick would rather fight that super Dragon than learn to be a real magician or start trying to really master other fields of science or raise his new stray. It is almost like he has a pathological fear of commitment. Send him to a shrink already!
Are we ever going to see Erick try and deal with his mental health issues? Ever since Orb he has been on a steady decline and if this keeps up in a couple more books he will be a twin of the demon king. This is really troubling for me because Erick is one of my favorite characters in all of fiction for how human he is, despite what he is and how powerful he has become. Right now Erick is showing clear signs of very human ailments such as chronic depression, PTSD, Shell shock, and even survivors remorse but he isn't trying to get help for any of it and it is only making things worse. On one hand, I love it because you have made Erick's reaction's seem so very real that I keep forgetting that he is a fictional character, on the other hand I hate it because me feels can only take so many kidney punches.
