Anne-Maree Yes ! so correct about the credit card & internet. The place of porn in the novel is also intriguing ~ today even the word porn, is so ubiquitous ~ like fast food. The extremes of the regime in Gilead place women in such restricted zones. Covered up is pious & uncovered is for the Marthas & unwomen or the secret nightclubs. Today, the veiled woman is often belittled, particularly Muslim women, the sari wearers seem to be given 'a pass' as they often expose their midriffs !
