Thank you very much for your reply John. I hope I'm not cast as the father who spoiled Christmas for his children! I have a nice long holiday in Spain coming up so I'll have plenty of time to read the LJS books. I think it's possible that I have already read one of them already which may be why I came accross the Fletcher books. I hoover up all 'shippy' books (as my wife likes to call them!) on Kindle for when we are away and sometimes I can't remember which ones I have read! However I usually remember the authors I like though and you fit well into that category along with O'Brian, Forester, Durbin, Lambdin and others.
I'd like to see Fletcher (or more likely a new character!) sail further afield in the manner of Bligh when he was looking for breadfruit for the navy. Plenty of time on board for long descriptions of the ship's workings, good weather, bad weather, crew's adventures and dramas and the deprivations of being more than a few days away from fresh supplies. :-)
