If you have a trusted beta reader who says he's done and at least a few editor friends or fellow authors who give it a nod, then that's when I'll know I'm done. Mine are patient, thank god! Oh, I'd punctuate that writing and editing with some reading of genres out of your comfort zone; it helps me with style, but that's just me.
