As people say, you see the train wreck and you can't look away. That's what the main character's life is like. She's a grifter, on her times, and she's trying desperately to find a way out, but she's also delusional and not one to dwell on how bad things are.

I read Golden Child by Claire Adam (also read for The Key Word challenge). I didn't know much about the book going in - but wow - it was definitely emotional! I had a moment where I had to set the book aside for a while before I could continue.

Hi Jerikay - I read about the same amount of books per year too.

Key Word: Silence
Book: Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes.
Really enjoyed this creepy space horror. This is not really a sub-genre I read a lot of, so I was pleasantly surprised. Nice way to get the reading year started.

Punctuation: Apostrophe in the title
A Serial Killer's Guide to Marriage by Asia Mackay
Quite an entertaining read.

Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan. This was published in 2021, but is set in 1985. It's a book about living a hard life, and even then, how some people have it harder. It's also set in Ireland, and touches a bit on the Magdalena Laundries.
