1176148 I haven't read anything else by Lehane, though I probably will put Shutter Island on my tbr.
I'm in my late 20s. While I obviously have zero first-hand knowledge of bussing and the racial strife of the era, the decade of the 1970s has been a major focus of mine in my numerous college history classes.
I didn't like Mary Pat at first, though I felt for her, as I would for any mother in her situation. She won me over by the end, though.

1176148 Just wanted to chime in and say that I read this book about 6 months ago. I had heavily mixed feelings about it. It was a solid book, and it has stuck with me. However, the extremely dark tone, and especially the ending, was a bit much to take in. I don't consider myself easily stirred or shaken, but this novel got to me.
