118024 We're reading THREE by Ann Quin for our April Backlist of the Month! If you have never read her, now is definitely the perfect time to start. We hope you'll join in!
118024 Dalkey's publisher and I were having a conversation about Japanese lit. not too long ago, and he said that from time to time, he thinks of this book. It has stayed with him for so long. I thought I'd introduce myself and Backlist-ers to it.

You're a good man! We'll still be here reading whenever you're reading. These are (semi-related) short stories, so nice to jump in and out of.
118024 Join in and read THE WORD BOOK, part of our Japanese Literature Series!

118024 From the translator himself: "I hope the book has done okay -- it is indeed a long unwieldy thing that might strike readers as less concentrated or concise than the first volume… (also, there is considerably less pathos…) I certainly learned a lot from translating it. I'd like to think it is finding its readers…"

I don't mean to break your heart, but as far as I know (and my production schedule does extent pretty far), the answer is no. Also, a while ago, someone on FB messaged Dalkey and asked this question, and I gave him a hopeful answer. If you're reading this Facebook man, I'm sorry.

118024 Have you read it? Are you reading along with us now? Have you read other titles by Roubaud? Let us know! We'll discuss all month here and on Facebook and Twitter. At the end of the month, if you're the first to answer our trivia question correctly, you'll win our next BLOTM!

I'm pretty sure the answer to this is no, unfortunately. I don't do production, so I'm no expert, but I think that when we do new books, it goes into layout for galleys and from layout it's easy to put it into ebook form. For older books, it's a big backtracking process. There will, of course, be a time where we do put them all into ebook form, but I'm just not sure when that is.
118024 By Yugoslavian writer, Danilo Kis, A TOMB FOR BORIS DAVIDOVICH is a collection of seven short stories written in 1976. I hope you all can join the discussion!

P.S. - Thanks, Jim, for the suggestion.

118024 Hello everybody! Tomorrow on Facebook, I will be asking a trivia question about Impossible Object and the winner will receive our next Backlist of the Month, so please keep your eyes open.

On another note: writing the last chapter, The Sea, from the perspective of the woman was brilliant. I'd love to hear other opinions.

Yet another note: Happy (almost) New Year!
118024 I am almost done but, alas, work calls!

Things I find striking: the emotions he's describing - love, sadness, loneliness - are the most basic of human emotions. Coupled with such simple (albeit wonderfully constructed) sentences make for a beautiful, eye-opening read. For me, it's like a Terrence Malick film. The story has been told before, but the way in which it's told (Malick's cinematography, Mosley's language) is why it's so extraordinary.

Great book. And don't worry, I'm making note of everyone's suggestions. In fact, one of yours will by the January pick.

118024 Thanks a lot for these! My colleague and I have some ideas, but, of course, people are more than welcome to give a few suggestions.

As an aside: I posted something for UK/Londoners and would love some feedback. Thanks! https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

118024 Dear London and UK folk,

I have a question for you all: I have spoken with Foyles bookshop on Charing Cross about regularly stocking our Backlist of the Month. I would let them know the book in advance so they'd have time to order in 5 to 10 copies of the Dalkey Backlist of the Month. They would even put up a little table just for us! Is this something you all would be interested in?

I'd love to hear your feedback.
118024 You're welcome! Speaking of McElroy, you should read this interview: http://numerocinqmagazine.com/2013/12...
