This looks a lot like questions I like to fill with "fluff answers." Basically sentences that could be interpreted as a proper answer, but have little to no meaning behind them.
You could also try something along the lines of "Racial discrimination was not considered acceptable, but passages defending slavery could be misunderstood or warped into sounding like they condone it. Most of the accepted slaves were prisoners of war, racial discrimination in slavery became a method of obtaining free labor without war."
