http://www.bristol.ac.uk/arts/exercis...I hope I got that correct as I can't copy and paste on my kindle. I have fond memories of dangling participles in school because they provided some of the few funny lessons we had. Best suggestion I have is to get a friend to either read aloud to you or you read aloud to them. If a sentence makes you giggle it probably has one. Journalists tended to use them then but otherwise we were told they are best avoided.

That is appalling. If Penguin were forced to discontinue and pulp every book that annoyed a religious somebody or other there wouldn't be much left to read!

Hi, my name is Lisa and I am ancient! I used to work as a teacher but retired early to care for my mum. I am also a trained musician so I multitask when I have time - composing, recording and writing projects. I recently put a novel out but in the past my focus has been mainly poetry. I tweet a lot and like to help promote other writers and musos (and hopefully they do the same).

Earl Grey tea and a cat or two in the room. When I write poetry all I need is a scrap of paper and a pen or pencil, for prose I go straight to my laptop. If the TV is on quietly in the background I don't mind because I can easily ignore it, but silence helps at difficult points.

I am not sure what a blog tour is, but knowing that bloggers earn money for selling books (commission from amazon affilliates) I am reluctant to "pay to play" on someone's blog. The difficulty with running your own blog is getting an audience. It can take years to build. Having said that, it is an ideal opportunity to make friends and contact a fan base. Facebook pages work in a similar way. I like Twitter but I think you need to grow a large following and then nurture it rather than "spam" them too much. I am contemplating buying custom bookmarks and inserting them into books in shops when nobody is looking :D

My office is just a passage way in the bungalow, but I write on my laptop so my writing habits vary. I like a good strong cup of pressed coffee in the morning to get the ideas flowing quicker :)
