1210 Hi guys nice to see this group being full active Pkd fans.

I missed reading, posting in this group. I voted for Confessions of a Crap Artist.
1210 I thought this was in the same league as Palmer Elderitch and i enjoyed it more. I have already forgot much of that book because of the weak characters. Now Wait for Last Year is my fav PKD so far with The Man in the High Castle. Havent read Ubik yet.

I enjoyed the lead character, the emotional weight, the time travel, the bad marriage. I read this 4-5 years ago.

Hehe i understand what you mean. Frankly i dont remember a sexy or happy romance in PKD books i have read. PKD has a habit of writing certain females characters who are maneaters. Maybe its more positive in the short stories, the other novels i have not read.
1210 Im not in that group so it would be interesting if the readers who read it for that group read could share their thoughts here. I havent read it yet.
1210 Arent too complex? The most complex relationships are often found in romance books, classic love stories.

I like reading the mundane, realistic take on relationships in his books. Men and women are together and they are not always madly in love. They just dont want to be alone.

1210 So we should vote for the book in January ? So you have time to get the book if you dont have it.

4 group reads per year sounds pretty good, PKD isnt light to read mentally, i cant read too much of him in a year.

I havent read as much i could have because when i read him i tend to start with the best, mature period of 60s,70s.

He was so prolific that i dont want to waste time on mostly the lesser books. This one was a lesser effort but it was wacky, different enough to be worthwhile on its own.

I have only Scanner Darkly,Valis,Ubik left of the most rated books. I will also try to read all his books within 4-5 years. The 2 books by year avreage i have now isnt good enough anymore;)

Lucky you, you have a great, one of the most impressive PKD books left. Its easy to compare the books and see clearly where High Castle was so focused,so driven,so powerful and where this book was fun, interesting but lacked the writing quality, depth of emotions, lacked the intelligent political ideas that made that book a classic PKD.

1210 I have only few pages left and i can say easily its no where near The Man in the High Castle for me. I dont believe really in his portrayal of the totalitarian society, oppressed people as well as he did in his finest novel to me that is The Man in the High Castle. He doesnt focus much on the dystopian side.

I think the characters are quality PKD but there is too many ideas, too crazy ones in the same book even for.

I like experimenting with the many characters POV and what he is doing.

1210 My initial thoughts is that it has a very good, strong start compared to many other books of his that tend start slow, not focused from the start. Nice to read stories with machines, many characters story from PKD. I havent read many pages but i hope its better done POV changes than Dr Bloodmoney that also had several POV characters.

1210 Looper looks like what a good PKD adapatation should be like. Frankly when i saw the trailer i thought about how bad this film looked and how Looper looked like i was reading PKD time travel story.

Hehe i have been enjoying your posts while learning new things about PKD which is win win to me.

Welcome to group and keep the fun posts coming :)

1210 What a fascinating idea. Good luck with that.

1210 I havent read this before and i cant wait. I ordered an interlibrary loan just today. I should get it less than a week.

Since im poor student this term, i also ordered an interlibrary loan of Clans of the Alpha Moon. Im not used to reading library copies of PKD. Im such a fanboy of his that i usually only get his books in new prints.

Its because people who like books like PKD and want to make their own SF like that have better chance of doing that than screenwriters, directors doing Total Recall for money or other reasons only.

1210 Heh the idea sounds very good. The film had good lead actors too. Lets hope there is a neat SF film like this to see soon.
1210 Are there any other books of his like this? I wonder i like the weirdness of it,the mood.
1210 Hehe maybe join the group for the Dick read and then leave the group after that.

I have not read the book. I have been making my way from his 50s,60s books.

1210 he took to his own element? It wasnt SF title by Zelazny ?

There are several authors like Zelazny rated for their weird language. Dont read an author like Jack Vance if you didnt like Zelazny weird use of words....
