A Torch Against The Night by Sanaa Tahir

The Hunger Games books were harsh and violent. The Harry Potter series also had some harsh and violent scenes especially in the last few volumes. That being said, LIFE is brutal, harsh and violent. Just because a writer finds a new colorful way to spin it doesn't make it less true. This is something we shouldn't hide from our kids. Just watching the news shows how dark and dangerous our world really is. They need to know that there are horrible, terrible people in the world. But they also need to know that there is good in this world also. They need to believe that they can strive to be good and faithful, trustworthy and strong. The messages in these books are not just about violence and death, they are about finding the courage to stand against those that are unjust and finding courage within themselves. Maybe the most important thing a kid can learn is EMPATHY. It is built within the pages of every fiction book. When the characters suffer, we suffer. When they triumph, we triumph. It's a wonderful way to teach our kids about the world and about themselves. Hiding them from it does them no justice.

Read this series when it came out and it is definitely an amazing series! Love the books, love the movies, LOVE it all!!

This has been on my to-read list since it came out. I just came out of the Study series and needed to scratch the fantasy itch. I read the previous Throne of Glass novellas and fully enjoyed them. I finally picked this up and I don't know why I waited so long. I'm immersed in every word!! So far I LOVE it! This is shaping up to be a new obsessive series.
