I'm ready to hear how all our mountain-climbing team members have done out there on Pike's Peak, Mt. Ararat, Mt. Everest....whichever peak you've chosen. Checkpoint participation is absolutely voluntary and is not considered necessary for challenge completion.
For those who would like to participate in this checkpoint post, I'd like you to at least complete the first of these two things. And if you feel particularly inspired (or generous about humoring me during the holiday season), then please do both.
1. Tell us how many miles you made it up your mountain (# of books read). If you've planted your flag on the peak, then tell us, take a selfie, and celebrate (and wave!). Even if you were especially athletic and have been sitting atop your mountain for months, please check back in and remind us how quickly you sprinted up that trail. And feel free to tell us about any particularly exciting book adventures you've had along the way.
Well--this year I still managed my original goal of 100 books for Mount Everest and blasted off for Mars. But the peak of Olympus is still far up the trail. I'm still reading--hoping to squeeze in one more book before the ball drops back in Times Square on Earth. Current total: 116 of my own books read (and hope to finish #117).
2. Answer as many of the prompts below as you can with TBR titles you have read this year. Feel free to add/subtract words if it will make the answer make more sense. I've given my answers below as examples.
Describe Yourself: The Silent Speaker (by Rex Stout)
Where Do You Live: Old Hall, New Hall (by Michael Innes)
Where Would You Like to Go: [Murder] Aboard the Flying Scotsman (by Lee Strauss)
What's the Weather Like: Cold Bed in the Clay (by Ruth Sawtell Wallis)
Favorite Time of Day: [Murder] After Hours (by Agatha Christie)
A Good Piece of Advice: Never Cross a Vampire (by Stuart Kaminsky
My Superhero Secret Identity Is: The Golden Eagle [Mystery] (by Ellery Queen, Jr.
And finally...if you would like to be in my year-end drawing for a challenge prize, please visit me at My Reader's Block and link up the URL for your mountain climb (the most recent mountain, if you've moved through several mountains). I'm only using one drawing for all of my challenges this year.

Bea: The current year's climb ends with Dec 31st--so your last book in 2024 is your last step up the mountains. Books read in 2025 will count towards a new climb in the new year--but it starts again at ground zero.

Congratulations, Linda!

Wishing you and everyone in the group a better 2025 than 2024."
thank you, Fran! And to you as well.
