1228726 Going by book blurbs, I thought I'd like The House in the Cerulean Sea more, since my heart is weak for the "lonely man adopts children and finds his family" kind of story (Despicable Me, anyone?)

But I'm hooked onto this book. The characters have personalities that complement each other well, which makes their dynamic fun to watch.

The main character Millie is sardonic, restrained, and gruff. Contrast it with Nina's extremely warm "please call me Nina-not-Mrs.-Winchester-it-sounds-silly" and "I felt like you and I had a connection," big chef's kiss. The times Nina cracks in her sweet demeanor, I read her in Caitlin Reilly's WASP mom voice, haha.

I don't feel like there are redundant characters. The rest of Nina's family, Andrew and Cecelia, are great at bringing out different sides of her and Millie. Now for the crime to unfold...

1228726 Hi everyone! My name is Jessica and I'm from Washington state, 20 years old and studying computer science in Pennsylvania. I used to read a lot as a kid and loved writing stories but fell off from it because of my studies.

I don't have a favorite genre - any book with a lovable cast of characters will do it for me! If the characters hit me in the feels and make me laugh, it's a good book. I tend to gravitate towards memoirs, historical fiction, and adventure, but some of my favorite stories are in horror and fantasy.

This is my first book club and I'm excited to meet new people :)
