1231649 I’m half way through this book on a re-read.
I think it’s one of the best psychological thrillers and philosophical treatises ever published.
Apparently, Freud and Nietzsche both agree.
It’s interesting how guilt set in even before the crime was committed so we can rule out psychopathy. The fact that Raskolnikov wrote a published paper claiming that some people (Nietzsche’s uberman) like Napoleon or Isaac Newton were entitled to kill as they pleased because they had superior intelligence is ridiculous! But I’ve always wondered why people think Alexander the Great was so great anyways. ?!

Joseph Frank’s definitive biography of Dostoevsky consists of 5 volumes totaling 2327 pages.
I’m going to complete this by reading about 50 pages per week.

Volume 1 discusses his early writing: Poor Folk, The Double, and Netotchka Nezvanova
So I will read those too along the way.
