I had my ups and downs and probably would have finished it sooner if I saw more of Dalinar. I mean like come on Sanderson don't do that to me again. hah just kidding but really I'm obsessed with him..
I have so much I want to talk about so this is probably going to be a long one!
First we have Shallan . Well for me Shallan wasn't the most excited character in the beginning and this was part of the reason why I didn't read faster. I was just bored by her, or rather annoyed. I knew I didn't want her to steal the soulcaster but all the back and forth she did was slightly annoying. Though thinking back I did enjoy watching her learn and grow, the studies seemed so unimportant to the story but was still a major part by the end of part three.
Kabsal was just ahh! I liked him so much for Shallan though I will say his "feelings" developed quite fast. I appreciate that Sanderson didn't have Shallan deeply in love with Kabsal that quickly, that she liked him but not in love with him. I just couldn't believe what he did! I agree with you Lindsey, my emotions in that little time with him was thoroughly manipulated!
Jasnah! Okay I really really enjoy Jasnah's character! She is funny and witty and smart and just knows so much! I was kind of surprised she didn't know that Shallan took the soulcaster but we shall see where this opening goes. I don't know how I feel about her just sending Shallan back! I know it's Shallan's fault for not telling her ANYTHING including the creepy dudes, but I want Jasnah to help Shallan! Not even with her family just with her in general! The soulcaster/whatever the heck Shallan did was crazy and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time! I want to know what is going on there and Lindsey, what you said about magical drawings?! That makes so much sense! Like she is really good at drawing so why not make that some sort of link between something. I don't does that makes sense?! hah. Overall I really enjoy Jasnah and can't wait to see more of her!
Okay now time for Kaladin!! I have so much to say about Kaladin. First of all I LOVE HIM! He is such a tortured soul. Something I find interesting is that he is always 'depressed' during a weeping. Which means for some reason, that is getting clearer by the chapter, he and highstorms are connected! Also the part where he was a highstorm was so dang cool!!! And when he met Adolin I was so excited and was hoping Dalinar was going to show up but alas he did not.
Now the part where he was IN the highstorm and how Syl was helping him and Teft and just WHAT! I want to know who Teft is so bad and how he knows what Kaladin is. Also WHAT IS KALADIN?! hah. So much of his past was revealed and just, I feel so bad for him. It's so sad about what happened with Tien and how he was trying to save boys like Tien when he was a soldier! Gah just rip my heart out.
I also had a feeling that he hated the Amaram (is that how you spell it. I'm an awful speller!) because he killed a Shardbearer and Amaram took the blade though with everything that is Sanderson I could not predict what actually happened.
Oh and his parents! I kind of knew that his parents weren't dead because of my brother but we still really don't know if they are dead now or not!
There is more that I probably want to say but my brain is just mush at the moment and I just want to keep reading! So for now this will have to do!

DUDE YOU READ MY MIND! I'm not even kidding, I have a note on my phone that says almost all of what you just said! hah.
Here is some stream of consciousness I jotted down while reading this part:
Shardplates/shard armor is full body armor= awesomee
Chasm scene was cool, kind of boring in parts but overall cool. It reminded me of something out of a Greek myth--Dalinar holding the beast foot off of the king.
I like how traditional the male and female roles are, not really degrading towards woman but still holds an "old fashion-ness" to it. I'm waiting for a woman to just break all the rules though. I'm thinking Jasnah ;)
So far I really like the Ardants (is that how you spell it?) I liked the interaction we got to see between Shallan and Kabsule, and I also like Cadish, the way he talked to Adolin was interesting.
What is up with Renarin and his blood disease? I want to know more!
Kay now time for the specific things!
Kaladin:
I also really liked Rock! His voice is so funny on the audio book and I'm always looking forward to his parts! I also live around mountains and every time he says "Air sick low-landers" it makes me giggle. I also really like what Kal is trying to do with bridge four and I can't wait to see what happens with it! Syl is also one of my favorite side characters, I love watching her grow and the way she is around Kal is just really awesome. I kind of have a prediction that Syl is around Kal for a very (maybe has to do with the magic that Kal has, because I'm convinced that he has magic of some sort) specific reason and Rock can see her because of that reason. I don't know. Kal's going back in time parts are really interesting and I want to know everything about his past! Also I hate Gaz with a passion. OH! And what Kal did with the spear?! WTH was that? I need to know more!
That's all with Kal for now!
Dalinar :
Oh Dalinar. He is probably my favorite character at this point. I also feel the same exact way as you, Lindsey, DALINAR IS NOT CRAZY AND HE IS ALWAYS RIGHT! Gah. I also see him as a Ned Stark though I've only watched the first season of GoT but I think that's okay for this connection. I like Adolin to an extent and I think he could be a great character, but come one dude. Get off you're dad's back and just believe him!! It makes me dislike him a little that he is making Dalinar question everything. AND AN ABDICATION?! Nooo it can't happen. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that something changes his mind or that Adolin refuses to take the spot or something. I think Adolin would be good at and all that but Dalinar needs to do what the visions are telling him! Speaking of vision, I think the vision is one of the coolest things I've seen so far! I really liked that part, also Sanderson built them up to be something really interesting and the vision itself delivered so much!
I'm going to stick Sadas in this part because I don't have much to say about him. On one hand I trust him, but on the closer hand I don't. I think he is going to turn around and steal High Prince Of War away from Dalinar, which at this point wouldn't really matter but if Dalinar doesn't abdicate it could be!
Also I do not trust the king. I half think he knows exactly what he is doing and is just playing at being naive but we will have to see.
I really don't know how I feel about the king's mom. I know Sanderson always keeps his relationships on the back burner and never really makes them a big deal but I kind of want Dalinar to be in love. Maybe not with her, but with someone! (I would be okay with her I think though. I'm confused on my feelings for her)
Jasnah is just awesome and I really can't wait to learn more about her. I trust her whole heartily (mostly because Dalinar does.)
I really appreciate how crazy Sanderson is making this world without just killing off characters or doing anything cliche really. I'm just enjoying this books soooo muuch. I'm pretty sure this is going to be my new favorite series.
Whew I hope that wasn't too much! I really had a lot to say! hah. I hope everyone is enjoying the book as much as me!

I really love both Kaladin and Shallan so far, I feel for Kaladin more and really want him to turn into a badass and I am probs going to have a big fat fictional crush on him but we shall see! We've only just met the (dead) king's brother and nephews so I'm not sure how I feel about them yet!
Also what the heck is up with Szeth?! His character kind of freaks me out (in a good way) and also intrigues me! I can't wait to see what we learn about him.
The world so far is really cool, I like how it isn't similar to another world I've read so far. I also really enjoy the spren for some reason. I don't know why, I just find them really cool! I don't have any clue where Sanderson is going to take this world (or story for that matter) but I can't wait to see how it develops!
Some things I've been WTH-ing, well first Szeth duh, but I already talked about him a little. Also I want to know what Kaladin did soooo baaad. I kind of have an idea already but I'm dying to know. Also with Shallan, I understand what she is trying to do (to a certain extent) but for some reason I really don't want her to steal anything. I mean yeah, she is helping her family but I just don't want her to turn on the king's sister. Again I'm not sure why but I just don't!
Hmm, what else? OH!! Syl! She reminds me of Tinkerbell so much and I just love her! I can't wait to see what is up with her because I know she isn't supposed to do what she is doing. Does that make sense?
Okay that is all I can think of (for now) can't wait to read more! The story is starting to take off and I'm just super curious at this point!

I am reading the part one UK edition of this book so my pages maybe different than everyone else's, but I'm currently on chapter 12 and on page 201 there are three little dots that I stopped at! (Why I'm saying this is so I can an idea on where everyone is so I don't spoil or get spoiled on anything. I'm at the part where we first meet the Elhokar, Dalinar, and his two sons. More specifically at the part where Elhokar and Dalinar just raced to the top of a rock!)
