Fire in the Darkness
5 out of 5 stars
I loved the first book, Darkness of Light. And I loved the sequel too. It has a good mix of humor, drama, action and tension. As was the case with the first book--I couldn't put it down until I was finished. And when I finished it I regretted that I was done already. I can't wait for the third.
The characters are complicated and multi-dimensional and compelling. I love Ember, the heroine. It is not often that you find a female lead that is strong, likable and capable. Eli is funny, frustrating, strong and seriously hot all rolled into one. Watching the relationship between Ember and Eli grow will keep you hooked b/c it is not too drawn out. It feels natural and well-paced.
There are many layers to the story and the world of the series but they are easy to follow and are clearly described. The plot of the series moves along well. It's not too fast or too slow--it's just right.
I honestly can't wait for the third installment.

Darkness of Light
5 out of 5 Stars
When I first started this book I was pretty sure it was going to be the usual paranormal, teen romance. That never does stop me from reading a book, though. With each page I was pleasantly surprised. While there are some familiar elements to this story, it was a genuinely refreshing spin.
The characters are very well developed and equally refreshing. I absolutely love Ember. It’s not common to find strong, independent characters in this genre. Ember is all that and more. She is the heroine I’m always looking for when I read. The dialogue is equally well developed. It feels natural and relatable. The narrative itself flows well also and has good pacing.
I can honestly say I can’t wait until the next one. This is a novel that I would recommend to my friends. It’s fun, sexy, exciting and kept me guessing. Just when I thought I would know what was coming next I was surprised. I’m really glad I read this and would definitely read it again.

What Happened In Between
5 out of 5 Starts
First of all, I read this book as a R2R exchange--but I did buy it myself.
Honestly, at first, I didn't think it was going to be my cup of tea. I'm much more the supernatural/thriller reader. However, I am happy to say I was very happily surprised.
The book focuses on Laken and her struggles through a rough past, love, heartbreak, college and finding herself and what she wants. The book sets up as the classic love triangle--but it didn't go where I expected it. A fact that I am very grateful for.
Laken has survived a lot despite being so young. However--contrary to her beliefs--she's not broken. She's smart, strong and driven.
All of the characters in What Happened In Between are strong and complicated. They are fun, flawed and you can't help but like them and care about them. Well almost all of them--I really didn't care for Ian at all. :)
There are so many books--often ridiculously popular ones--that create a "heroine" that too weak, self-sacrificing and unsure of herself to actually be considered a hero. Laken though, fills that roll wonderfully.
I finished the whole book in almost one day because I couldn't stop reading. I NEEDED to know what Laken was going to do with all of the complications in her life. And I wasn't disappointed. I was heartbroken, happy, angry and hopeful right along with Laken as she figures out what she wants and needs and makes it happen.
So--I can honestly say I really loved this book and I will most definitely recommend it anyone who wants to read about real women in realistic relationships and not feel cheap and pandered to.

Blood Beyond Darkness
4 out of 5 starts
Ah...the end of a great series is bittersweet. I have loved this series from the first moment I began reading and it was sad to finish it. However, that being said--I wasn't disappointed with this final installment.
The characters were great--as always. I love Eli and Ember's relationship. Its never easy and its never boring. In BBD new challenges present themselves and threaten to keep them apart and I won't tell you if/how they work them out. I'll let you enjoy that on your own.
In the first three books Ember is still learning how to be a grown up--and it has been fun watching that process. In BBD she finally has to start acting like an adult and making difficult decisions--and they are brutal.
I like that I was surprised by the end of the series. It didn't play out like I expected and I love that.
There is a great balance of humor, sadness, action and fun in, not only this installment, but the whole series.
If I had any complaints they are minor (a few editing errors) but none of them detract from the story.
I am already eagerly awaiting Brown's next venture.

Dwellers of Darkness
5 out of 5 Starts
I was given this book for an honest review and I loved it. I've read the first two in the series and loved them so I was looking forward to one as well--and I wasn't disappointed.
The characters have great development. Kennedy, Eli, Gabby--they all seem to grow and mature in Dwellers. Kennedy really comes into her own and shows her strength and I loved the development between her and Ember as you really see the depth of their friendship.
Ember shows even more maturity as well. I find her strength as a heroine refreshing and rare. She finally takes control over her life and demands answers and respect. I love her self awareness emotional intelligence.
I also really liked the development of her and Eli's interrelationship as well. They have both needed to get out of their own ways for a while and they finally do just that--in the most delightfully sexy ways. :)
Even though some mysteries are finally solved--things are getting more intense and complicated. I'm genuinely excited to see what happens next.
