
I don't have a "safety" book. That's a really interesting concept though. I used to resist reading books more than once because I didn't want to lose the original 'feeling' or experience that initial read gave me. I have, admittedly, revisited Kafka on the Shore more than once. Murakami has a style of writing that seems to reveal something new, different, unexpected or forgotten each time. It's like reading his works anew. And, after first reading Kafka on the Shore, I knew I had missed something essential. It still took me more than a year to revisit. Whether or not this is a "safety" book choice, I don't know. And... maybe I need to have a "safety" stack- a pile of unreads in my home which I can always rely on to provide me something new. If it is that newness that I crave.
