4 stars. Well-written psychological thriller that I just could not put down. Highly recommended!"

ooooh, I'll have to find it. I've really enjoyed the few books by Japanese authors that I've read so far.

If so then I've started already with 1,2,3 of the series at the end of 2020

I love this series. And good call on the audio book choice. Susan Ericksen is one of my all time favorite narrators. She really makes the characters live, and gives them all a unique voice. I love her voices for Peabody and Mavis. :) The series is great, but huge. I'm still working my way through it! Not every book is a diamond, but they're all worth reading.

147920 well, this book kind of seems like what you're looking for. however, I have no idea if the series is any good. I haven't actually read it. Firedancer by S A Bolich.

147920 I definitely enjoyed the Odd Thomas and the Frankenstein books. so I don't think you'd be unhappy with the first book in either series. I didn't find the rest of the series really great, but they weren't bad, either.

147920 I read The Devil in the White City too. I found it a very good, fairly quick read. It's an interesting book so I can recommend it too.

147920 I wasn't sure what to expect, but I actually have found it a very enjoyable read. I should be finished tonight (crosses fingers).

147920 I understand completely. I'm currently in the same boat. What's particularly frustrating is that I was always annoyed that I didn't have time to read. Now I do have time and I can't concentrate long on a book. I've even had several days where I literally can't settle on something to watch either. Luckily I managed some serious reading time/attention yesterday, so I'm almost done with Demian, by Hermann Hesse.

147920 This is going to be a 'light' month for me, I guess. I'm not much of a dystopian/apocalyptic fan. But since I have a ton of books I need to read in other catagories, I think I'll use this time to play catch up. :) I may still dabble, if I can find a good example I'm in the mood to read. You never know. :)

I was wondering about Bruce's book. I really didn't know who he was until Burn Notice. Hadn't watched all those old horror movies."

I saw them, and they're very funny for horror movies. But what I've always known him best for was as director of the Hercules the Legendary Travels and Xena Warrior Princess shows. He also created what was supposed to be a one time character (Autolocus, the King of Thieves) that was so popular they had to keep bringing him back and putting him in Xena too. :)

147920 Anyone looking for an idea, I have a suggestion. I read "My Life Among The Underdogs" by Tia Torres when it first came out and really recommend it. She's the one behind the Pitbulls and Parolees show on Animal Planet. I was expecting her biography, but it turned out to be more than that. She's always been all about the dogs, and this book is, too. She talks about the dogs in her life, and you do learn more about her, but her focus is on the dogs and her relationship with them. I'm not even a dog person and I loved it. You'll laugh and you'll cry. Very good book!

147920 This one will be fun. I have a TON of biographies I need to read in my To Read list. Given how busy I've been lately, I'm not going to pick a number of books, I'll just see what I can manage.

Up first:

An American Princess: The Many Lives of Allene Tew by Annejet van der Zijl
Jun 04, 2019 07:10AM

147920 I had really hoped to get more off my 'to read' list. What I managed was:

1. Fer de Lance by Rex Stout
2. She by H.R. Haggard
3. Turn Of The Screw by Henry James
4. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
5. The Phantom Of The Opera by Gaston Leroux
6. Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu

And I'm stuck about halfway through Fahrenheit 451. I really thought this one would speed by for me, as I normally love Bradbury. But in this case, I got about 40% along and.... my initiative and momentum just died. It wasn't connecting and I just couldn't find the inclination to pick it up, especially since I've been so busy late. :( Oh well, I'll get there eventually. :)

You are so right, Cheryl! I'm actually rather astonished at how differently I see these books now as opposed to when I was in my teens/20's. It's a very good thing to re-read old favorites. They don't always withstand the effects of time and experience.

147920 Adelaide, I had a problem with The Phantom of the Opera like that. I have always been a pro-phantom devotee, but man, Raul is such a wimpy, whiney loser! And the whole "if you look like a monster, you have to be one' smug philosophy made me even more pro-phantom! And we'll just glare at the idiot Christine for proving the Victorian beliefs of women unable to think, be faithful, keep her word.... She was a much better character in the musical. But , ugh, (shudder) Raul is so awful! He's a disgrace to emo kids everywhere. :P

147920 Great categories! I have so many classics on my To Read list! So far I have read:

1. Fer-de-Lance by Rex Stout (2 stars)
2. She by H. Rider Haggard (2.5 stars)
3. Turn of the Screw by Henry James (4 stars)

Currently working on Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. I hope to get to Phantom Of The Opera, The Three Musketeers, (technically re-reads for those two), Fahrenheit 451, All Quiet On The Western Front, Catch-22, Camille, and possibly Moby Dick and Ben-Hur, depending. I may go with Last of the Mohicans and Rebecca, instead. We'll see what catches my fancy when I finish each one. So no definite plans for me this month. I may go 'light' and re-read Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre or even Wuthering Heights and Black Beauty. As for literature, well, again, we'll see what catches my fancy. :)

147920 Armadale was better than I expected. I hope you like it!

147920 Thanks for the author name, Carolyn! I looked and the Meg Duncan series is apparently so out of print you can get hardcovers that cost over $100 or nice used falling apart books for $2.00.. :P Guess which one will go on my 'to get' list?

What I have read for this is (all are ebooks):

On The Shoulders of Titans (Arcane Ascension #2) by Andrew Rowe
Lucifer, vol 3 by Mike Carey
Lucifer, vol 4 by Mike Carey
Marked (House of Night #1) by PC Cast
Lucifer, vol 5 by Mike Carey
Trixie Beldon and the Secret of the Mansion by Julie Campbell

I got over the five, but on deck is Coraline the Graphic Novel. :) I love Neil Gaiman! I should be able to read it before the end of April.

147920 lol! I think I'm set to hit level 20 with this one. I do a lot of audiobooks to listen to at work. It's just easier because I find I don't have anywhere near enough time to just sit down and read anymore. Work and real life just interferes too much! :)
