Just finished this for Week 5 (yes, I am a jumper...I'm a slave to the library hold list). I've never read Vonnegut before and had no idea what to expect. I do love WWII, but not so much the science fiction aspect. I did enjoy his unique approach to expressing the atrocities of war, but just couldn't 100% get into it with the time travel/alien involvement. I didn't completely mind his writing jumping from thought to thought, but I remain hesitant to read another...but this is what this reading challenge is for! Perhaps I'll try another next year...

Great topic! I have also been creating a list of additional categories to cover in the future. I would love to push myself to read different genres, but this mini-list primarily focuses on different topics to further educate myself on.
-sports based novel
-book involving religion (ideally different than your own)
-book related to your significant other's or family member's career
-book based around a medical condition (cancer, Alzheimer's, PTSD, depression)
-book involving an addiction
-book that takes place in college/university setting
-historical fiction- personally I would like to read novels involving different wars (American Revolution, American Civil War, WWI, WWII, Vietnam, Iraq etc)

Finally finished this book! I'll be honest, this challenge is what kept me so dedicated to reading, as it was a slow read initially. I think a big part of that was how long the chapters are. He can be repetitious, but at the same time, I feel this is a more realistic way people tell stories plus the foreshadowing intrigue. It was a different subject matter for me both in era and with the religious ties, but I'm glad I read it! Towards the end, I got hooked and found myself going to "bed" earlier and staying up later to read. Onto the next challenge!

I will be joining in on this one too! Haven't seen the movie (always prefer to read first) and currently on the library waiting list for it. Hopefully I can also get beyond the complete lack of prep and just enjoy!

I will be joining you with this book! Good luck with the challenge...hope the kindle gods visit you soon!

I'm curious of what you think of Dark Places. I loved Gone Girl and plan to read Sharp Objects for this challenge, but Dark Places didn't really do it for me. I will also be reading Slaughterhouse-Five and Wild!

I like your list Amanda! I see some familiar books that I have enjoyed (Book Thief, Unbroken) as well as some that I have on my to-read list (Wild, Slaughterhouse Five, Eleanor & Park, Girls of the Atomic City). I may have to borrow some of your ideas! I personally love that you included Ian Fleming. I own the entire 007 collection! Enjoy learning how to play baccarat (sorry, no texas holdem in that one) :)

I have ventured to the dark side of ebook reading and have stopped paying attention to how long my books actually are! I was surprised to find so many books I already completed in this category. I started searching by going through my to-read list and looked up how long they all are and found this recommendation by a friend coming in at over 600 pages, so here we go!
