155170 I just finished the book! I had a really hard time keeping up with it in parts because the language is so different from what I am used to lol But I liked it! I am going to watch the movies on Netflix this weekend and see what all the fuss is about!

I thought the songs were more like poems and I didn't mind them so much but I guess I can see why they would get annoying if you dont like poetry! lol Gretchen Strider was pretty cool but Galadriel was my favorite character I think. She was the boss and everyone knew it! My friend said she was over 1000 years old too.

Do you think they will remake the movies since they are so old now?

155170 Sorry for taking to long I had finals and I was getting behind on the book.

Wow! This was really interesting! I had no idea that Robin Williams was a standup comedian and had never heard of Mork and Mindy. I have seen reruns of Happy Days a few times. The Fonz!

I feel really bad for Robin too. I didn't know he was so sensitive. He seems like someone who is just super happy all the time. I guess that just goes to show you. I did like a lot of his movies though. Mrs. Doubtfire was my favorite but he is probably better known for being the genie.

If Robin was still alive what kind of movies would you guys like to see him in? I wish he could have been in the new Jumunji. It just wasnt the same!

155170 I liked this book too and thought it was a really different perspective from what I normally read and what the club normally reads although those arent always the same thing lol.

This book felt a lot like a good tv show. I'd totally watch it on Netflix! I did see If Beale Street Could Talk and I liked it too, but I liked this more. Maybe now that it was successful they can make this into a netflix show? I didn't realize they were written by the same author until you asked that Gretchen.

I think what I liked best was that I never knew anything about this world. I've never read anything or seen anything that takes place in that time and setting. I like historical stories because it's really fun to see the world other people lived in even though this story wasn't very fun. That sounds bad lol I mean that I enjoy the history even if the story isn't a happy one.

155170 OMG, the only person offended here is you Ryan LOL!! We are just talking about a book and how it could be interpreted in modern societies. Don't let it ruin your day!

Also, Merry Christmas everyone, or Happy Hanakuh, or Festivus, or whatever you celebrate lol!

155170 Hey everyone sorry im late to the party! lol

I liked this book mostly but I thought the same thing about Odessa. It seems like the author was a little racist huh? It made me cringe reading those parts.

I think Big Barbara was the most interesting character. Not only is her name funny but I know people who call members of their family big someone. She seemed right out of an old movie to me.

Did anyone think the elementals were native american spirits?

155170 Hey guys when are we doing the next book?
Aug 17, 2018 11:06AM

155170 I liked this book alot and thought it was fun to read! I guess I don't really see what's sexist about it that much lol. It didn't feel like they were putting women down?

My favorite character was the sheriff I thought she was going to take charge of the whole show and save the day but she kinda fizzled out after a while.

I couldn't stand the dog catcher guy because he was just a bully pushing everyone around.

Nobody in this story really wanted to work together. It was every man and woman for themselves. Except for a little while in Our Place when they actually got along. Maybe thats the point of the book that all people suck!

It wasn't scary thought so I don't understand why they call it horror.

155170 Hey guys who gets to pick next?
May 11, 2018 11:15AM

155170 I don't know. I think I was kinda sad when you guys said it might be made up lol but I still liked it. I like the feeling of reading a book and knowing the author is being honest. Like if you read Harry Potter you don't get the impression that JK Rowling wants you to think it actually happened. It feels like Lorenzo Cartera was trying to pull a fast one on us if he was lying

ikd I still liked the book

155170 Hey guys sorry I haven't been active lately. Finals!! Lol Hello Gretchen! You picked a good book! I agree with everyone that it was hard to read because it was so depressing and sad but I kept turning the pages. I'm glad they got some revenge at the end.

Gretchen you said you liked the details of his settings and I do too. I think that was the best part of this book! The first part was such fun to read. Such interesting characters! I didn't see the movie and I didn't know how the book would turn out.

You said people think he made it up?
Nov 19, 2017 10:36AM

155170 Wow you guys really got into this book lol! I was reading that they were gonna make a movie about this but now I guess its never happening.

So I have a question for Garret since he has read all of these books. What was the thing that the student saw at the end that made him go so crazy? I know it kept making that weird sound but I don't know what it was.
Nov 14, 2017 04:38AM

155170 Ryan I liked it good choice! Everybody has heard of cthulhu but I never knew where he came from so this was fun to read. Do all of his stories take place in the same place? Like, do they all happen in the same universe?
Nov 12, 2017 11:10AM

155170 This book was kinda tough for me to get through lol I had to look up some of the words and reread pages a few times. I liked it though I think lol. I think it's kinda funny reading this book now because we can just go on google earth and see whatever we want to see and there arent any ancient cities out there hahaha

155170 This book sounds creepy!
Aug 20, 2017 07:03PM

155170 Kila how is the show?? I want to watch it but I am so behind on other shows.

This book gave me anxiety!! I've never read anything that felt so real and so scary! In high school we read the diary of Anne Frank and it was similar to this in anxiety level. At least this wasn't true and women don't have to live like that in America

Kila I definitely agree on the ending lol I wanted her to use that match she hid to blow the whole house up and start a revolution. im a little sad that it didn't end that way! lol!
Jun 05, 2017 07:25PM

155170 Kila I totally agree about the aunt kicking the husband to the curb! That guy was a piece of hipster crap lol! Sorry I forgot to say this in my last message.
Jun 05, 2017 07:23PM

155170 Wow, I liked this book! What a suspenseful tale!!! I couldn't put it down like Kila! I read summaries before I got into the book so I had a good idea of what was going to happen but it was still very surprising. I thought the crash was going to be by terrorists since they kept talking about special windows and bomb glass lol. Maybe that was to throw me off the scent?

Bill Cunningham was bad but he didn't kill anyone. That crazy pilot killed everyone on that plane except Scott and JJ. I just couldnt believe that. I kept expecting them to find someone out there. That poor boy has to grow up all alone now and his only family is an aunt and uncle who drink.
May 03, 2017 07:15AM

155170 LOL! Good one jordan!!! lol Apple fanboys do worship the phones!! They stay up all night in line to get the new iphone when it's on sale which is fasting! They watch those keynote speeches and mindlessly recite the talking points just like going to church! They even acted like Steve Jobs was god!! XD Maybe Steve Jobs should have been in American Gods!! lol
